2011 wrap-up #1 – sewing for others
I’ve been reading lots of sewing wrap-ups around the blogs. It’s quite impressive to see just how much people have sewn, how much they have grown, how much they have developed their skills, and how they have identified what it really is they like to make and how they like to go about it. Inspirational stuff! I didn’t really intend to do a wrap-up myself, but found myself playing with mosaics this morning and it looks as though I am going to show you what I’ve made after all!
This first mosaic is clothing I’ve sewn for others – Mum, my husband, Clare, Stella, and my cousin Freya. Clare is definitely the person I sew for most – poor Stella! Although she is the eventual recipient of everything that I make for Clare, so I suppose that’s okay. She loves getting Clare’s outgrown clothes.
I made any New Year’s Resolutions or written myself a to-do list for this year (although as I type this blog post one is beginning to form in my mind – stop that!); I just want to be more mindful. Mindful of what is already in stash before I buy any more fabric (the shelves are currently full to bursting). Mindful of the patterns that I already own before I buy any more patterns. Mindful of the yarn that I have before I get more. I’m not banning myself from buying anything, but want to be more mindful and less impulsive. And I want to apply mindfulness to the rest of life as well. Let’s see how I go!

That is very impressive Lara! They are also very beautiful!
Here, here on the ‘mindful’ idea. It is so tempting to buy when seeing a new eye-catching fabric line or touching a soft ball of yarn. I have realised as I’m getting older, time is not on my side to get rid of the stash I have.
I enjoyed your mosaics – a very creative year. In the one on crochet, I spied one top that I have the pattern for sitting on my desk this very moment. It’s good to read someone who has made it.
Best wishes to you and your family for a wonderful 2012.
