Black Ruby

There seem to be lots of Tessuti Ruby tops and dresses around the internet now.  I’ve made a top, so thought it was time for a dress.

This is another of my December Sewjourn makes. The fabric is something from stash that possibly originally came from the Darn Cheap Fabrics $2 table. It looks like a twill, but I have no idea what it is made of as it drapes beautifully and has quite a sheen to it.

I made straight size 12 without alteration. This is the pattern dress length, and I am only 158cm tall, so you might want to keep that in mind if you are making the dress. This time I remembered to take my own advice about how to apply the armhole and neckline binding, sewing it to the wrong side of the dress then flipping it over to the front and top-stitching. It has worked out beautifully, if I do say so myself.

I really, really like the way that the armholes sit so snugly on me. This pattern is made for my shoulders and upper chest! No gaping, no pulling, just a dress that flows. Although black isn’t my first colour of choice, in this dress it is a great blank canvas for accessorising. I’m sure that it will get plenty of wear. Not much else to report about it really, other than I like it and yes, there is another Ruby dress cut out waiting to be sewn.
