I needed a summer nightie. Something cool and easy to wear, but acceptable to be seen “in public”. And in my stash was vintage Style 2588.
Combined with my favourite summer fabric, voile, this has become just what I wanted!
Okay, it’s possibly not the most form-flattering item I’ve ever made, but I’ve been wearing this for the past couple of weeks (not consecutively – it has been washed!) and it is amazingly cool and just perfect as a summer nightie. A pillowcase nightie wasn’t going to cut it for me!
When I made it according to the pattern the neckline was way too high, pretty much at choking level. I unpicked the bias binding/tie, cut the neckline down another 1.5 cm all around, then rebound it. It’s fine now. Not that I do up the neck tie anyway. The fabric is one of Anna Maria Horner‘s Innocent Crush voiles – I think that the print is called Mixed Signals, and the colour Cornfield. Luxurious to sleep in! And evidently I didn’t even bother to iron it for these photos….
