stripes – lots of them

You may well remember the striped cowl top that I made from Vogue 8634 (a pattern that I have now made three times).  Since I had plenty of fabric left, I made a simple coordinating one seam tube skirt.  And a vest.  And wore them all together to work yesterday.

This is such comfortable fabric and the whole outfit was extremely easy to wear. The skirt was super simple. I measured around my widest part and added an inch or so. Then measured the length that I wanted the skirt to be and added a couple of inches. Then cut out a rectangle accordingly. I seamed up the long sides, hemmed the bottom with some fusible tape and a row of twin needle stitching, and added an elastic waistband. For the waistband I just cut wide elastic to size minus an inch or so, sewed it into a circle, then pinned it to the top of the skirt and overlocked it on. Then I flipped it over and zig zagged it into place, forming what looks like a casing. It took about 20 minutes to make this skirt.

The vest is Simplicity 2283. I plan on making this again with the coordinating t-shirts in the pattern. I like the drape and the pleat at the centre back. It was simple to construct and I think it’s very effective. I didn’t manage to match my stripes properly at the centre back neck sadly.

And one of the best things about this outfit? It will still fit me when I lose weight, I think – although I’ll possibly need to take the skirt in a little. I’ve signed up to the 12WBT and have 10kg to lose. I’ve done it before and know that I can do it again with a little determination and a lot of avoiding the chocolate aisle at the supermarket.
