my creative space…
Take one skein of white yarn bought from an op shop. Fibre type and composition unknown.
Add an excellent tutorial and bottles of food colouring.
Find some gloves and enthusiastic children.
Then zap the yarn in the microwave.
Rinse it all out once it has cooled and drape it somewhere to dry.
Admire all the bright colours.
Then wind it into a skein, wonder what you’ll crochet with it, and feel mighty clever!
Hop on to Ravelry and share it with the what a Kool way to dye group. Then admire the skein some more.
The yarn must have been wool after all! It’s rather bright and garish, and a great first step into the world of dyeing.
There are plenty of creative spaces to be found over here with Kirsty. What is happening in yours?
It’s great! Wonderful that you could get the girls involved!
It looks amazing! can’t wait to see what you make with it!!! I’m sure you and the girls enjoyed it a lot!
What a terrific project with the kids and the results are beautiful!
oh wow!
i would love to give dyeing a go, but am to scared!
plus all the second hand wool is pretty expensive where i am =(
Great work Lara, can’t wait to see how it works up. Its something I have been dyeing (ha ha) to try myself
Ooh gorgeous! And thanks for the linky love. I forgot to say that if you can get hold of black food colouring (harder to get than the colours sometimes), a tiny drop here or there will extend your range of colours immeasurably.
This is certainly something I want to try this summer.
So much fun:) looking forward to seeing it turned into something – will it be something for the girls?
It never occurred to me to dye my own yarn. I’ve been looking for some black and yellow variegated yarn so I can crochet some tiger tails. (Our favorite team is the Mizzou Tigers!) If I don’t find some in the color I like, I can always dye my own. Thanks for the idea!
