Around the Block part 1 – for Kate
When Kate sent out her fabrics for round 1 of Around the Block I knew that I wouldn’t be able to resist them for long. Such a great choice of colours and designs! She had asked for log cabin blocks, and provided a marvellous inspiration board to get us started. Here is the first I made:
There were many feature fabrics that I couldn’t bear to cut smaller, so the lengths and widths of the fabric strips really dictated the style of the block. This one worked out to be 12.5 inches square. For the second block, I once again wanted to use all the feature fabrics. By this time I was getting a little short on fabric, so my planned design evolved and changed during construction until I ended up with this block:
I had plenty of the goldfish in my stash so bordered the square up to 14.5 inches.
These were such beautiful colours and fabrics to work with, and in the end I was quite happy with what I produced. I joined in this quilting bee for the challenge, and feel that I am already learning a great deal. You can check out some of the blocks that the others have made here.
They look great Lara – i’m in construction mode tonight with mine.
They look fantastic Lara – haven’t had a chance to do mine yet but loving what I’m seeing! Well done
These blocks are beautiful Lara! I love how the first one features the spacemen and the second has four features and then a big feature of the fish. Thanks so much for adding some fish from your stash – thank you, thank you x
