Some more vintage Style patterns
Firstly, what thoughtful, insightful, and perceptive comments to my last post! Thank you so much to everyone who responded. There are numerous points of view, and reasons why to sell or not to sell your craft are certainly more varied and more individual than I’d anticipated. I’ll do a summary post in a few days time. Thanks again for your input – and anyone else who’d like to put their two bobs worth into the discussion would be very welcome.
These patterns were puchased during my last trip to visit my parents. Country op shops are always more of a success for me than my local ones – probably because locally I’m competing with so many adept Northern suburbs op-shoppers. You know who you all are!
I’ll possibly never make this one for either of my girls – it was really a nostalgia purchase for me. I made lots of similar drop-waisted dresses. I can remember one in particular that I made for Christmas one year, with a sailor collar. I was probably in about year 7.
This one is rather sweet! Nice details with the way the sleeves and bodice have been seamed. I probably will make a short version of the pink dress for Clare eventually.
This one is my favourite! I’ll definitely make it for Stella (it’s only size 4, so Clare doesn’t get a look-in). I like the way the skirt is gathered in to the square yoke, and it looks comfortable as well as pretty. I hope my daughters are happy to have me sew for them for a long, long time.
Oh my goodness Lara, I too had a drop waisted dress with a sailor collar that my Mum made for me when I was about 10 or 11!!
the last one is beautiful! may need a lend of it!
I want a dress in Style 3464 in my size! Cute!
Holy cow, I had the blue dress in picture two. Mine was of dusty pink fuzzy material, and I wore it with my bo-peep drawstring bag, my bowl cut and glasses, with buck teeth, when I was a bridesmaid, aged 8. Hee hee!
I loved my mum sewing for me – always and always – she got sick of it B4 I did.
Another wearer of the blue dress in picture two, mine was white satin for a wedding, I still have a photo of me wearing it!
You’ve gotta love the drop waist dress with the sailor collar. Did you know that there is a Savers in Shepp now too? My mother in law who lives in Shepp visited and said there was “crap” there which I interpret as “treasure”. You should pop in for a look if you can 🙂
Hi Lara,
I look forward to reading your blog every day. You get my sewing/ crocheting mojo going.
I live in the States and it is so cute to read the little differences in language we have, like frock or nappie or cushion instead of dress, diaper and pillow.
Just wanted to say that as long as the kids clothes don’t LOOK home made (and your kids totally don’t) then you can sew until forever for them I am sure. Yours are very, very well done. Yours don’t have that look of the “my mom thinks she can sew and made me this dress and is so very proud of herself and I am wearing a potato sack now…”
I had a gray blue drop waist sailor collar (lacy of course) dress w/ a big ole’ bow on the back at about age 12 for Easter one year. My two younger sisters had matching ones naturally…
Thanks for sharing all your creativity with us. I, for one, soak it up!

p.s. I love, love, love your ‘hoot’ in your last post. I know you didn’t make it, but it is splendid and I love reading Felicity’s blog now too.
HI – My Mother has used these patterns since they were first available and I have used Enid Gilchrist patterns that I have found and they are all great and easy to follow.
I have 3 of the books and would dearly like to buy others if they were only available.
Are there any sites that you can download copies of patterns like this? Are there copyright issues with these patterns? If anyone one is wanting any thing that I have I am happy to copy the pages and post them.
Happy sewing
Anne
