Goodies from Lancefield
Not only does Lancefield have Sewjourn and a farmers market – it also has a terrific op-shop and an excellent book shop right beside one another! These are my oppy finds:
A little sewing box, in excellent condition; vintage patterns; crocheted doilies; needlepoint (I have been inspired by Floss and her interpretations from this book to do something creative with it); and pillowcases for dresses and quilts. There are a few pieces of Chocolate Lollipop fabric in this photo too which Emma kindly gave me. I’m planning on incorporating the doilies into clothes for the girls. I have loads of crocheted and embroidered doiles that my Nanna and my Mum made many years ago, but can’t bring myself to cut into them – hopefully I’ll have no such qualms with ones I’ve bought from the oppy!
The patterns are pretty groovy – I’ll definitely give the Simplicity one a go for myself, and it won’t be long before my girls are wanting dresses and shorts like those in the teen Butterick pattern, I’m sure!
I bought a copy of Material Obsession 2: Shared Inspiration at the book shop. I actually prefer it to the first book. There are so many quilts in there I’d love to attempt – but I’d better move on from beginner status first, I suppose. I particularly like this one:
I always like bright colour combined with white in quilts, and particularly like it when the pieceing creates secondary patterns (rather than having blocks defined by sashing). So this quilt speaks to me on a number of levels.
So, will I be able to cut these up? Only time will tell!
What a wonderful haul!
Cut the doilies, it will be fun 🙂
Go to it girl! Isn’t it funny that, even though I don’t have the same patterns as you do, mine still look the same. I’m sure they must have used the same models to pose all their patterns even if they are only drawings.
That’s a great haul! The pillowcases especially.
I really, really would like that latest MO book. I have the first. My birthday is in September, so I am already writing down a “list” for family who want to know what to get me. This book is on that list!
Looks like a very productive stash shopping trip to me! I just love photos of sewing related goodies. It is really inspiring. I look forward to see what you make with these fabulous finds.
You were a VERY good shopper that weekend. I was impressed. I have a pattern for you. Drop me an email of where to send it.
Just cut them…it makes you feel good when they are transformed into something new! I’m the doily cutting up expert. Nice oppy haul , and I must check out that bookshop in Lancefield.
Lara,
You went home with more than you arrived with !
Chop up the op-shop doilies, they’ll look great.
What a great collection of things. I’m hopeless at cutting into stuff – I always buy pieces thinking I’ll chop them but then I just can’t bring myself to do it. That skirt I made was a ballet dancer who looked more like I man so I didn’t feel so bad trying to give her a makeover. The needlepoint is beautiful, I always looking forward to seeing what you make.
I agree their second book is a much better one … very beautiful to look at!
Wow, love that quilt you’ve shown. I’d make that for sure! And love the embroidered pillowcase. I’ve got some for my daughter just like that!
I know what you mean about the doilies Lara – I have a heap from my great grandmother and can’t even bring myself to leave them up at Sewjourn! Op-shop hauls are great for that. It’s amazing what goodies you can get from a morning shopping in Lancefield.
I have the same problem with doilies too. I always want to craft with them but can’t quite bring myself to do it.
I hope you left some nice goodies for us at the opshop when we visit in July.
