Other people’s craft: Mum’s lap quilt
My mother recently made her first quilt, a sampler quilt. She wasn’t entirely happy with the finished result – but Mum is very hard on herself! This quilt is her second quilt: a lap quilt from reproduction civil war prints.
Aren’t those fabrics lovely! The backing fabric sets them off beautifully too.
This quilt looks even better in real life, and Mum did a lovely job of piecing and quilting. She sewed the binding on by hand, and it is perfect. Congratulations Mum!
The quilt is amazing – I adore the colours! I can’t believe she sewed on the binding by hand – I really admire people who know how to do that. I’m clueless when it comes to handsewing…
It’s beautful she should be proud!
Yay mum! It’s a beautiful quilt – she should be proud!
That quilt is so beautiful, she must be so pleased with it. Miss lara, can you chuck me an email when you get a minute???
Great job mum!
Reproductions from our (U.S.) civil war? Huh. Did she find the material locally or order it online? I guess this may seem silly to you, I was just suprised that Australia had something like that, and my history is fairly good, so I don’t recall an Australian civil war… I admire that Australians are as knowledgable about the US as they are- the US in general certainly isn’t knowledgable enough about Australia!
I do admire the size and the strength of the new craft movement that is really being led by Australia. And from a photo of a quilt I have been led to commenting on this… I have no idea how my mind works!
Yay Lara’s Mum! I love civil war or 1800’s reproductions and I agree they don’t photograph very well and look much better in real life. Mum has done a great job and I bet the sampler quilt is great too!
