Sweet Lorraine Scarf
I bought just enough sqishy, soft, apricot 12 ply merino from Pear Tree Yarn to make a scarf. I’ve been waiting for the perfect pattern to highlight its gorgeousness. I found it in the Fall 2008 issue of Interweave Crochet – it’s the Sweet Lorraine Lace Throw pattern, which includes instructions for conversion to a scarf.
I’ve been crocheting a few rows at a time in my breaks at work, then had a sudden spurt of crocheting time last week that enabled me to finish it off. I was actually a little surprised at how quickly it worked up!
The lace pattern looks fancy but it’s actually pretty simple to do, and with 12 ply yarn it’s super fast. One of my favourite things with this pattern is that the scalloped edging is worked as you go, so there is no need to go back and edge the scarf at the end.
I used two entire skeins of yarn for this scarf, and had to fudge the final row of scallops a little because I was running out. The scarf was completed with absolutely no yarn to spare. It’s such a great pattern – enough variation not to be boring, but still straightforward. Love it!
Oh, it’s so pretty! It reminded me of the scarf that Mary Poppins (in the movie) wore – similar shade of orange and a lacy pattern. 🙂
This is so gorgeous, I love the colour, you are inspiring me to learn how to crochet this year.
That is so nice! I have some lovely worsted green Lorna’s Laces that would be lovely for this.
I’m so copying you …
This is gorgeous, I’m in love with the apricot colour. You must be so pleased with the result.
I have that issue – so I might give it a go. Nice to see someone else do it first
Great colour Lara, can’t wait to see you – I mean really “see” you . yippeee
Definitely very sweet. Beautiful colour and pattern. Each time I see one of your projects, I think how much I’d like to move on from the basic granny square!
Lara this is gorgeous and really suits you. It goes without saying that the craftsmanship is A1! OMG you’ve had another haircut and it looks GREAT! If I had a sister I think she’d be like you in every way!
So pretty! I am aware of a growing NEED to learn to crochet when I see projects like this!
It looks gorgeous – what a beautiful colour. I’ve been debating whether or not to make this and now I think I will! I love lacy scarves….
Love this pattern but am unable to locate the magazine anywhere – could someone mind sending me a copy of the pattern.
