Oliver’s Christmas cushion
Last year I made cushions for my cousin’s eldest two sons, each personalised with their initials. This year it was Oliver’s turn.
Oliver is starting school in 2009, and has to take along a cushion (for naps? to sit on? I haven’t quite worked out why). Here’s the back:
He was so excited when he unwrapped his parcel! I was really surprised – I didn’t expect that a cushion would be so well recieved by a five year old. But it obviously hit the spot.
I can see why he was excited – its really colourful and fun! What a lovely gift.
Maybe they are a bit kinder at school these days and don’t make kids sit straight down on floorboards or a raggy old mat. In my day preps only had to take a smock, chairbag and jiffies to school (don’t ask me why the jiffies – I still have no idea).
How lovely that he enjoyed it so much! I don’t understand the taking of cushions to school? lol
Very cute and all his own which is probably why he was excited. What a clever idea to have his initials on it, no fighting over whose cushion it is.
I make these for my grandkids (1, 3, and 7 years old) and they love them. I use a 24 inch form, and we call them “reading pillows”. A good fun pillow is always welcome. In fact, I’m making one for my son-in-law so he can use it while waching football. Maybe I’ll call it his football pillow. 🙂 I love the colors you used.
We SHOULD insist on everyone bringing cushions at our school to cope with the bum breaking 1hr Monday assembly where the kids sit on the floor of the gym.
I keep saying it is a Haemorrhoids lawsuit waiting to happen !!!
maybe he has long assembly at his school too.
Cute. Great patterns. How is the lettering done? I should make myself one for all the hours down on the floor with my two under-2 boys!
Lovely fabric combination great for going on the floor as it’s not too pale. It reminds me a little of Harlequin at the back- so perfect for a boy. No wonder he loved it.
How well I remember when after her first day of school, Baby Girl (now 20!) decided that Kindergarten just wasn’t for her! So I made her a round patchwork pillow and for the longest time it went to and from school everyday. I asked her about it recently and I believe it’s somewhere at her dad’s house. Actually I wouldn’t mind having it back as I remember how happy that pillow made her.
