Renee top from Ottobre 5/2010

Another top that I forgot to blog earlier!  This was made in July, from lovely merino jersey that came from The Fabric Store.  The pattern is the Renee jersey top, from Ottobre Woman Autumn/Winter 5/2010.  I made size 40, which seemed correct according to my measurements.  It feels a little large – I think that one size down would have been better.

This top has lovely features. The sleeves are slightly gathered into long cuffs, which would have looked better a little tighter. Ottobre asks you to use clear elastic to gather the sleeve edges. I found that awkward, and just gathered the usual way with two rows of straight stitching on the machine. Because the rest of the assembly was on the overlocker it still worked well with plenty of stretch. The yoke neckline is also rather pretty. It’s well proportioned and more interesting than a simple band. I also like the shaping through the body.

This is the first garment I’ve made myself from an Ottobre pattern, and I don’t think that it will be the last. The more I look at these photos, the more I like the shaping of this top, although I still think that I made it one size too large. The latest issue of Ottobre Woman arrived this week – I wonder what I might make from that one?
