New Look 6257
I bought this pattern ages ago, when Clare was really too big for it. It languished in the pattern stash, but I couldn’t bear to get rid of it. Lucky for Miss Stella – it’s now been made!
It’s a little dress with matching pants (Miss Stella is in cloth nappies, so I like matching pants that have plenty of room in them, and most sewing patterns accomodate cloth nappies, unlike many bought baby clothes). Here’s the front:
And the back:
And another close-up of the front.
I like the ric-rac trim and the self-covered button. The fabric is a quilting cotton recently received from Z&S fabrics. I can’t wait to see this one on her!
In the meantime, here’s a photo of her wearing the floral romper-dress I made a little while ago. It looks so sweet! (Gee, I’m a little biased, aren’t I!)
Awwwww…… Well you know I think Miss Stella is an absolute delight, but the little dresses are very very cute, too.
YOU’RE AN INSPIRATION!!!
You’ve inspired me (or made me feel guilty for never having made my poor child any clothes..?). I bought a couple of simple New Look patterns to use up some of the vast Z&S fabrics you ALSO inspired me to buy!!! (Yes, I know I could MAKE the patterns, but I never get around to it, and they were HALF PRICE at GJ’s!!). Now let’s see if you can inspire me to be as prolific/dedicated to finishing projects as you are….?
You are amazing!
I have a question for you. I am so inspired by your vintage dress making. I picked up a couple patterns at a garage sale that just might work for me. I have heard you mention different types of cotton when refering to what you made a dress out of, for example, this one was made out of quilting cotton. I think I have touched finer cotton fabric for dresses before, but where does one find it today? The fabric shops are full of quilting cotton, perfect for quilts but too stiff for a dress. If I were to do a web search, what should I search for to find nicer cottons. Would you mind making a post about this?
Thanks so much!

I love the crossover, the covered button, the ric-rac, but best of all I love the ‘sailor’ back – well done Lara!
What a beautiful outfit. The romper dress looks gorgeous too.
That is so pretty! I thought for sure that is was satin or silk until I read that it was cotton. The diaper cover is adorable and I have to agree that patterns are much more likely to fit over cloth diapers than store bought clothing. Thank you for the inspiration.
The dresses look GORGEOUS!!! I love the little yo-yo headband from the previous post, your really on a roll with the yo-yo’s… I love it!!!
I just love that ric-rac trim lara – so very cute . I missed your last post because bloglines has a problem with your feed. Anyway, those yo yo headbands are such a great idea. You continue to amaze me !
I love the new dress, and the photo of your little one in her cute romper. How old is she? I’m just asking because I have a little one, around the same age (she’s 9 months).
Pssst, I’ve passed on a little bloggy award to you.
