My creative space…
When I glance at the creative space that is around my chair I see lots of bags full of projects in waiting.
There are crochet projects of different sizes. A shawl, a bag, a cardigan, a blanket, and my crochet tool bag. There is a skirt still waiting to be hand-hemmed (maybe this evening at Northern Craft Bonanza). There are not enough hours in the month to finish all that I have started, yet I continue to begin new projects.
Have you read this post by Sooz yet? She has encapsulated everything that I love and feel about my craft weekends away in her eloquent prose. Sooz thinks deeply, analyses critically, and writes superbly. And boy, can she sew!
Between the cleverness of people like Sooz and Kirsty (check out that vest!) and Nikki I often feel a little overawed and overwhelmed. I wonder why I am blogging when there is such top-notch talent around. Then I remember why I started, and what it’s really all about for me. It’s just show and tell. It’s sharing what I make. My mum and my cousin and non-blogging friends read this blog to keep up with what’s happening in my craft life. It’s a personal record of making. It’s all about my creative space.
What is happening in your creative space? Go here to see what others are up to – if you haven’t already!
And here’s a gratuitous shot of my kids – because when it all comes down to it, they are the biggest creations I have ever begun!
You’re speaking my language! I have been thinking a lot about my blog lately and whether I will continue it, and I always come back to the reason why I started it. It was to keep myself honest about how creative I want to be, and to share some inspiration with others when so many others have inspired me in turn. I don’t care about user stats, or comments (even though I LOVE comments – it’s like we’re all sitting down for coffee together) or an “audience”. I just blog for me, and if other people enjoy it too then that just makes my day.
(And better to be overawed and overwhelmed than underawed and underwhelmed, I always say!!)
BTW – your creative space looks a lot like my entire HOUSE at the moment!
For your information, I’ll read your blog posts before I read any of those you mentioned (no offence intended to any of them…..you’re just a favourite).
So whatever you’re doing, just keep doing it. I might not always take the time to comment (how rude!) but I am always reading.
xx
And, oh my, do I love gratuitous shots of the kids!
Lara there is no reason AT ALL for you to feel over awed and overwhelmed.
You are a creative force and I love stopping by this space to admire your projects.
Everything you make is always inspiring and made to perfection x
You know they will all eventually get done – in your own time and own space . I finished an (ahem) 30 yr old ‘ufo’ a month or so ago. Brought a smile to my face and my daughter’s when she was presented with it!
Sounds like you have a project for every occasion – perfect!
I love reading your blog (even if I don’t comment often)
Gorgeous shot of your girls Lara and I too love reading your blog
I think you’d be a bit of a talent yourself! Don’t sell yourself short 🙂
& this was the first link from yesterday’s spaces I clicked…you’re one of my favourites too.
You make good stuff, you think lots, you’re good at the chat. I love Thornberry. x
Your list of stuff to do is always amazing … I love your pile and the red toile. I think I need to get me some of that!
My Creative Space
That’s exactly why I blog… to share with my family and friends and to collect new crafty-blogger-friends along the way! I also know that my Mum uses my blog as her own personal ‘brag-book’ to show her friends what I am up to. I also use my blog to keep myself on top of those ever growing piles of projects – we all have them! but by making it public, I find I have an extra push to finish (kinda like creating my own deadlines).
And don’t underestimate your talents!! I’ve just recently discovered your blog but it’s now on my list of ‘check daily blogs!’
I love your “show and tells” – and really admire your quality of work!
Lara, Lara, Lara! You are every bit as clever and talented you know. I agree, don’t sell yourself short. You don’t need to create *originals* to be creative. You are so amazingly prolific, I always enjoy popping over to see what you’ve been up to.
It’s a relief to know you have unfinished things too. I still think you’re one of the speediest crafters in town!
And I can only echo the others comments about your blog. I still don’t know how I found you (from way over here in London), clearly someone else also liked your blog enough to link to you and I followed the link. I really enjoy reading it though, it’s inspiring, eye candy, thoughtful, and just… all round nice. (And frankly, there’s not enough nice about these days 🙂
PS. What with the time differences n’ all, you now the captions on vintage crochet Friday sometimes make me late for work?! Like annny, seconnnd… now!
Ummmm…. overwhelmed? Nah – you’ve seen the way I make clothes for myself. OFM galore ( that’s “Only For Me”, for the unitiated) … and then they don’t even fit and I have to give them to you anyway.
I love your creative space, and am a tad overwhelmed by your multi-crafting skills…. and your blog was the start of me blogging, so there!
that’s uninitiated….. must proofread before posting comments.
We all take and give different things, we all see value in different things (generally the things said and done by others above what we ourselves do). Your skills with crochet make me ashamed I ever posed as a crochet teacher! I am deeply grateful that internets and craft weekends bring us all together and let us feed off each other.
Yes – you did good! Your daughters are beautiful!
You keep on blogging for yourself Lara, because there are alot of us, it appears, love that you share yourself, your beautiful girls and those wonderfully handmade items.
It’s funny how we view ourselves isn’t it!??
The fact at you can crochet and sew and draft stuff and make such diverse things with ease (clothes for you and the kids, bags, scarves etc) makes me think of you the way you think of those other ladies.
Good on you for remembering why it is you craft and blog though, it’s important to do that in all the creativity that is out there.
