Sinclair Patterns Lauren knit top
Writing so many blog posts has made me realise that I’ve tried out a lot of new-to-me pdf pattern companies over the past year. Sinclair Patterns is another one of them. They do multisized A4 and A0 pdf patterns in short, medium and tall proportions and cover Australian sizes 6 to 26. I think that’s pretty impressive! I started off with the Lauren knit top.
As usual, I’m having to rack my brain to remember size and alteration details and I sewed and photographed this months and months ago. I have a feeling that I chose to sew the ‘short’ proportions, and am quite sure that I graded out a size through the waist. The luscious fabric is a viscose knit from Eliza Fabrics (oh how I wish I’d bought more of this).
From the pattern website: Fitted at the shoulders and through the sleeves, semi fitted at the bust, waist and hips, with a draped accent in the front and asymmetrical neckline, faux wrap top or dress with a drop waist half circle skirt. Offered with long, 3/4 and short sleeves or sleeveless. Optional band for bottom hem. Elegant and sophisticated top or dress that is suitable for formal or informal occasion. The asymmetrical V neck consists of two layers and modest enough to keep everything covered. Light to medium weight well draping knit fabric with at least 50% horizontal and 30% vertical stretch.
The draped accent is created with rows of tiny tucks, not gathers, so some careful marking needs to be done. Mind you, if you wanted to you could just gather them. I really like the asymmetrical neckline. It’s finished quite early in the construction process, before the draped overlay piece is attached. Construction was shared between the sewing machine and the overlocker.
This top feels really lovely on, but at the moment it’s just too clingy for me to wear it without a cardigan or similar over the top. My body image issues. It fits – goes on comfortably, doesn’t bind etc – but doesn’t skim. Dammit.
I adore the neckline and the drape, and this will definitely stay in my wardrobe until I feel better wearing it. The colour is perfect for me and the fabric SO soft! I’ll try more patterns from this designer. And I’ll give this one another go too. I’d quite like to try a sleeveless dress version.
As with many of the pdf pattern designer there are lots of samples of the pattern on the website on people of a variety of shapes and sizes. There’s also an active facebook group. I always appreciate seeing how garments look on different people – and I suppose that is why I keep on blogging too!
I adore you in green.
Hi there, Love following your blog and seeing all the garments you make. Would love you to do a post on pdf pattern companies or sites you have used and your workflow. Perhaps a listing with links, purchase to paper copy, i.e. do you print at home or a copy shop, using the pattern, do you cut or trace to keep other sizes intact or reprint for altering size and how do you store the paper patterns once printed? I’m sure I would not be the only reader who appreciate such a post.
This is such a great colour on you. I like the style, too.
I can understand why you would keep this as it is beautiful. I enjoy your posts and appreciate the photos as I have similar issues. I would also love to read a post about PDF patterns as I see so many lovely patterns but don’t want to spend hours printing and collating.
Fabulous color, interesting design. But it’s not your body, it’s the fabric. Those thin rayon knits are tempting because they feel so good, but they cling in a really not good way. Even if the pattern needs drape, I am always happier with a bit more structure in the fabric.
What a lovely style, shame the fabric is a bit clingy (I have been seduced by this too!)
