Papercut Patterns Bowline sweater

I had been eyeing this pattern for some time, waiting for a pdf pattern sale.  And eventually one appeared!

It’s the Bowline sweater, by Papercut Patterns. I really like that pleated/twisted feature, and have always been curious about how it is produced. Now I know!

While it looks like a fairly typical raglan jumper from the back, the front has this marvellous fold that is integrated into the neckline. From the pattern website: Inspired by seafaring knots and bow waves, our Bowline Sweater offers structure and casual wear rolled into one. The unique pleated front is a show-stopper and would suit print or plain fabric alike. This fun sweater comes with a raglan sleeve, self-waistband and wide cuffs. Fabric Light – medium weight knit fabric.

I used a medium weight wool blend knit from Clear It (I’ve sewn numerous garments from this fabric now; it’s a marvellous weight and is very soft and warm to wear).  I chose to sew size Large, as per my measurements, but actually think that I could have gone down a size.  The cuffs are drafted to be long, and I’m wearing them folded back in half.

The neckline is actually much simpler to sew than it looks! Some folds and tucks,  follow the instructions closely, and before you now it, ta-da! There is a striped version on the pattern page that looks really effective – I am considering a striped one in a more lightweight knit (definitely a size down in that type of fabric though). The sleeves could easily be shortened to turn it into more of a ‘tee’ as well.

This is perfect for those ‘jeans and jumper’, at home relaxing days when I want to feel a little bit more dressed up. That neckline/shoulder feature really elevates this design. Recommended!
