Jalie 2918 – tees for him
I was recently given Jalie 2918, a men’s t-shirt pattern. Since I’d noticed that my husband could do with a few new tees, I made him one.
Yes, the fabric is pretty crazy! It’s a cotton jersey from Darn Cheap Fabrics, and he liked it so much that I went back and bought some more of their cotton jersey black on colour prints. And made another one.
And another one.
And another.
Oh wait, there’s one more!
Jalie describe this pattern as: Men’s and boys’ fitted tees with choice of sleeves (short, long or double-layered) and necklines (crew neck or V-neck). The long sleeve crew-neck tee in a stretch fleece or thermal knit makes and excellent thermal layer (long underwear). Obviously we went for the simple crew neck. I traced size X, which was a size larger than my husband’s measurements. The cotton jersey is very stable and not super stretchy, so I figured that it would be more comfortable cut with that little bit more room. All the construction was done on the overlocker, and hems were topstitched in place with the twin needle on the sewing machine. I didn’t even stabilise them first; that’s how stable this jersey is. They take less than an hour to make, including cutting out time. What an excellent basic!
My husband enjoys curling up under my crocheted afghans, but I haven’t attempted making any garments for him yet (although I certainly mend split seams & missing buttons on his ready-made garments). Great job!
Fabrics are amazing!
I love the first cotton jersey. The black on blue one. I love your choices of fabrics and colors. They’re not what I would choose myself and that’s what I love about reading your blog. I find myself considering other colors and prints. Thanks for all the beautiful creative outfits that you share with us!
What a lovely and unique range of T-Shirts. Your husband looks very pleased and so he should. Love your fabric choices.
The new T’s are so much fun. He is looking comfortable and relaxed.
Those fabrics are brilliant! It’s so hard to find men’s or even non-feminine knits here in Chile. Actually the same is true for scotland…I envy you! Great work too. I like sewing for my husband, i should do it more often!
What a great selection of original and fun T shirts! And your husband makes a great model.
Oh, Mr. Thornberry you do look handsome and pleased with all those new t shirts. Mrs. Thornberry is good to you……
I love these! The fabrics are so fun.
Those are fabulous! Now I want to make some for my hubby.
Love them all.i would love to make my son and hubby more than just pj tees.Every time I see the fabrics available to you ,I get a little jealous.spotlight Wollongong just doesn’t make the grade lol.
Lucky man! I really should make a few t-shirts (at least!) for Mr UpSewLate – last time I tried I used such an inappropriate, shifty knit that it put me right off! Mind you, I know he wouldn’t want me to use such fun prints, and the joy of the fabric is half the fun, isn’t it!
Lara no wonder there are big smiles on your husbands face, he looks very handsome and once again a terrific model just like you and the girls, you never cease to amaze me, what oh what am I doing with my days, mmmm!!! time for a review.
Love the t-shirt pattern will seek it out for my lovely husband.

Love them all!
I thought they ALL looked brilliant.
Hope you’re on commission ‘cos I’ve just bought the pattern to have a go for my hubby as well!
Fabulous! I do like the last pugs one! MrMaci has been complaining about the fit of his RTWs, Mr Thornberry has done quite nicely 😉
I absolutely adore that your husband likes this fabric – you two and the girls are great! Such vibe!
Love the posing! I’m disappointed he didn’t get a pineapple one too! They’re great fun 🙂
May I ask what kind of overlocker you have? This tee looks great – I have the same pattern ready for my dad but am waiting for the time to be right to make it up.
