I actually sewed up this Ottobre 4/2011 No.34 tank top for Clare while I was at Sewjourn in November, but it didn’t fit her! Luckily for me I have a smaller daughter, who was extremely happy to take it instead.
The fabric is a striped viscose knit that I picked up from the Darn Cheap Fabrics remnant box. There’s plenty left to make a larger version for Clare. Actually, I think I may have forgotten about Ottobre’s “add seam allowances” criteria when cutting this out originally, resulting in the smaller top, because I know that I traced size 134 the same as the other tops I was making! Either way, Stella is very happy.
Both my girls really enjoy wearing viscose knits. This tank is quite straightforward, with the main feature being the gathers at the front neckline. I chose to add bands to finish the neckline and the armholes (another “smaller-ing” factor in the size of the top) and decided to make each of them different colours. Orange for one armhole, pink for another, blue around the neckline. The joy of striped fabric!
Getting Stella to pose for photos can be a rather hilarious process.
I often have to resort to bribery. I have now made allowing me to take photos the price of me making a garment. Is that bad?
And for all the people who think that I have been sewing non-stop for the last week – I haven’t been, I assure you! Many of these garments were made a month or so ago but I’m currently in a bit of a frenzy to get them all on the blog. There are still more to come!
