StyleARC Amy top with Fay skirt

Another StyleARC combination.  Each month, StyleARC have a free pattern that they include in each order.  My friend Rachel received the Amy top with one of her orders, and thought that it was more my style than hers.  Unsurprisingly, she was right.

I cut the size 12 as per the pattern, without any alterations. The fabric is a poly/spandex from Rathdowne Fabrics. I really liked the colours.

The pattern has you leave slits at the bottom of the side seams so that the pointed edges can easily be tied into a small knot. I didn’t do that, but just overlocked the entire side seam. I used Vliesofix tape to stabilise the hem edges before finishing them with a small zig zag. Not much more to say about a simple cowl neck knit top, really.

The skirt is the Fay skirt, made from the leftovers of my ponte panelled pants. There was only a small amount of fabric to work with, so I made the skirt shorter and single layered. For a bit of fun I finished the hem with two rows of contrasting triple zig-zag.

The waistline is simply finished with elastic sewn into a circle, overlocked to the inside, then turned once and zig-zagged into place. Such a simple yet comfortable waist finish, and it sits flat and is very unobtrusive.

This outfit has been on fairly high rotation ever since it was made. Yay!
