first and last
It’s Stella’s first day at school. You were expecting this blog post, weren’t you?
She was incredibly happy this morning. Up bright and early, into school clothes, hair combed, ate breakfast, lunch packed, teeth cleaned. I think it’s the fastest we’ve ever been ready for school.
She sang the whole way there. “I’m a schoolgirl now”.
Very happily posed for photos.
Then as soon as her classroom door was opened, she dashed in, put her bag away, and settled down to an activity. She had to be interrupted for a last photograph and final cuddles. I think that we were the first parents to leave the classroom.
So that’s it. Her first day, and my last child at school. It’s the end of one era, and the beginning of a new one. It’s been a day of mixed emotions. I’ve had a lump in my throat at times and the occasional tear in my eye, but she is SO happy to be at school and she is so ready for it. And so are we. Time keeps moving on, and things continue to change. They grow up. As they should.
As you said “As it should be”. So glad she was so happy today, and I have to say that big sister looks proud as well.
I hope Stella had a fabulous day at school. She certainly looks very happy. It was my boys first day at Secondary school today so I know how you are feeling at then end of one era and the beginning of another.
I know how you feel. I was sad when my youngest started school. Here in NZ they start on their fifth birthday. I was also a little sad when my other son started High School this time last year. I commented to my family this morning that the start of this year was far less stressful.
Congratulations to Stella on being a schoolgirl! I hope school lives up to her expectations, and she enjoys all her years there!
I just had a bit of a giggle to myself as I thought you were about to say you sewed her school uniform! At the 2011 school fete I saw a roll of our school uniform fabric at the Trash and Treasure stall going for $2. It was 17m long and I used it all up on toiles. No uniform sewing for me.
Naw, too adorable!
She sounds just like Lucy was last year. I hope she has an awesome year
Don’t you wish you could bottle that enthusiasm? What an exciting new era.
so adorable. I know those feelings well. my youngest has just started school too and is as excited and ready as Stella sounds.
How lovely – I’m with Felicity. If only you could store some of that energy and enthusiasm… and pull it out when she’s a teenager and needs to be dragged from her bed in the morning! 😛
I hope she has a wonderful first year at school!
