This dress was finished before Christmas, but has been on high rotation during the recent heatwave. Nothing like a sleeveless soft cotton/lycra knit dress in the heat!
The pattern is New Look 6948, view A. I’ve had this pattern in stash for a little while, and I’m glad that I pulled it out. The fabric was from the Darn Cheap Fabrics $2 per metre table. This dress is actually a wearable muslin/toile, because there a few things wrong with it all due to user error, not the pattern. Can you pick them?
Those neckline tucks on the outside of the dress? They are supposed to be pleats, sewn on the inside of the dress. Whoops – call it a design feature. And I’ve not managed to keep the neckband stripes even around the front of the neckband; the white disappears in a couple of places. So far from perfect. But if I hadn’t told you, would you have noticed?
The back of this dress is quite plain. All the interest is in the front. The pleats on the lower side front give it a really interesting drape and shape, and the neckline pleats/tucks flow into it hiding my tummy quite well. Another great dress for someone with a thick waist and a tummy but slim hips/thighs – probably not so good if you are pear shaped.
