Jeff’s bag

I’m still posting about items made last year!  Doesn’t that make it sound as though it’s simply ages since I finished them?  This is the bag I made for Clare’s teacher, Jeff, as a thank-you. He really has been superb.

The pattern is the Large Tote & Satchel from Nicole Mallalieu Design, and the fabric (which should be very familiar to you all by now and has finally been used up) is from Ikea.

This has been a fun fabric to use, because the bag gets quite a different look depending on the placement of the pattern pieces on the print. It closes with a magnetic snap and there is an interior pocket and key leash.

Using webbing for the strap speeds up the bag-making process. I prefer adjustable straps for these types of bags – it adds to wearing versatility. It would have been good if I’d given this bag a proper press before photographing (and gifting!) it but time was really running out. Clare is in Jeff’s class again in 2012 – what will I make this time? Thankfully I have almost a year to decide…

crochet

2011 wrap-up #2 – crochet

When I look at this mosaic I am quite impressed at how much crochet I got through in 2011, particularly at the number of garments. And there were all those berets I made!  I still think that I could crochet one of those in my sleep.

2011 crochet

I do have some crochet goals (not resolutions!) for this year. One of my Christmas presents was a set of tunisian crochet hooks. I’d like to learn this technique, and maybe give another new technique such as broomstick or hairpin crochet a go. I’ve already begun on my BAMCAL, and look forward to seeing how it evolves over the course of the year. And of course, every year I put “finish Clare’s wool-eater blanket” on the list….
