Simplicity 2181
This is another of the garments that I made when I was away at Sewjourn (see, I told you that I had plenty of blog fodder from that one weekend away). It’s Simplicity 2181, view A.
Wow, that photo was clearly taken on a very humid Melbourne day before I recently had a haircut – just look at how my hair is all fluffy! The fabric is the most divine drapey bamboo knit. Bamboo is so beautiful to wear next to your skin, and it just flows over you. It came from Fabric Mart – I think that they called the colour Pumpkin.
I had to shorten the top considerably, and even though I took more from the front than the back, it’s still longer in front! I think that just depends upon your height and shape – because (pre-shortening) this top looked absolutely perfect on Karen!
And that’s Kathryn wearing my Simplicity 2599 and Rachel wearing my Alice top! It’s interesting to see the same garment on people of different shapes and heights. I think that Simplicity 2181 would flatter many people. It wasn’t difficult to make, and it’s actually quite easy to make all those central folds at the end. I used fusible tape around the hemline before stitching it down with a twin needle. Because the fabric is quite thin, I think it looks a little ripply at the back, although the front looks fine. It might have been better blind hemmed.
I’m away for the weekend with my book group shortly – so there won’t be any sewing, but there will be plenty of discussion and crochet! And plenty of this…
What a flattering pattern… Was it difficult to make with all the gathering in the centre there? I’ve never seen any bamboo fabric here, it looks amazing.
That top looks fantastic! …and yes bamboo is so soft and beautiful.
Chocolate looks great. Love the packaging.
Love it! I could do with some of that emergency chocolate about now too…
I love that top .. great style and colour! Now I’ve got another pattern on my ‘must make’ list!
this is my fave top of yours for some time! do you feel good when you put it on?!!
Just wondering what size you made in this top? Because I’m using you as my guide LOL Susan
Hi there Susan – sorry that it took me so long to respond! I think it was a size 12, but I’ll have to pull out the pattern and check. Not like me to have forgotten to include that information in my blog post! It was quite long though – I had to shorten it a fair bit, especially at the front. Happy sewing!
