honey blouse
I really liked the overall style of this blouse when I first saw it – it looked comfortable, cool for summer, and the twisted neckband and sleeve bands were really cute.
The pattern is the Honey Blouse. I adore the fabric, which is one of Anna Maria Horner’s Loulouthi voiles (Coreopsis, in Raspberry). But I really did not enjoy the process of making this blouse.
Luckily, I still quite like the finished product and I’m sure that I’ll get plenty of wear out of it. I have written a comprehensive Pattern Review over here.
I’m at home sick today – just one of those little viral illnesses that create a throat that feels like sandpaper and a head that pounds. Here’s hoping that with plenty of rest I’ll be better quick sticks! Enjoy your day everyone.
I really adore the look of this blouse, and was actually thinking I might buy the pattern and give it a go. Thanks so much for such a comprehensive and honest review. I’m giving it second thoughts now.
Also – I don’t think you should feel bad that your review was negative – it was very constructive and people need that feedback in order to improve and grow their businesses. You’ve done everyone a favour. Thank you.
It’s a great blouse, but no good that it was such a pain to make.
But yes – looks really good on you. Earthy dark reds really suit you! I love that print.
I agree with Sally – feedback is absolutely vital if we’re to improve (..she says… completely reworking the layout of her entire range of pattern instructions…Thanks for the reminder of why I started that!).
gorgeous fabric and v flattering
Gorgeous colour and fabric, and the neckline is really pretty, pity it was so difficult. We sew for fun too, right? I think I told you I sat across from someone, an experienced sewer, using one of these patterns and they had such trouble! So 2 bad reviews has really put me off- I have enough trouble as it is haha.
Lara I LOVE the shoes!!!!! I hope you get better for the weekend
Oh no I have this pattern and was going to make it on a craft weekend I ended up missing because Jeff was sick now I’m worried if you had trouble I’ve got no hope. Off to read your review
I agree with Annie, I love your shoes.
I also agree that honest reviews are important. I hope the designer is able to take your advice on board, because the overall finished garment is really cute. I really like the side tie. I also really like sewing a garment to be simple and straight-forward and finished nicely. I also would be expecting complete pattern pieces.
I do have one question though – the pulls around the armholes, do they make it uncomfortable?
Carmel, the pulls don’t make it uncomfortable, but I did find that I was adjusting the top quite often to reduce the armhole pulls. Cass and Bec, it wasn’t actually all that difficult to make, but I didn’t enjoy it for all the reasons in my review.
Some projects are like that – you just don’t like working on them. I have a quilt that I’m currently working on that I just can’t get into. It’s almost completed but I’ve just developed a mental block about wanting to do any work to finish it.
… love that fabric by Anna … the colour really suits you … take care
