I feel as though I must the last person to make this dress. At least I can excuse my tardiness with the fact that the pattern hasn’t been available for all that long in Australia and the weather is only finally starting to warm up a bit now! Here it is, Vogue 1250 (the first of what will no doubt be two or three).
Such a wonderful pattern! Three pieces; the front/skirt, the upper back, and the back facing. Too easy! I did shorten the front and back pieces through the waist about an inch at the handy lines provided to allow for my short waist. Otherwise there were no alterations. I made size 14.
The fabric is a cotton/lycra jersey from Darn Cheap Fabrics (not the discount table this time, but still around $7 per metre). It is hefty enough and patterned enough to smooth my curves out a little and not show underwear lines. I used a twin needle for the skirt and sleeve hems. I think that this dress took less than 3 hours to make, including cutting out. Imagine how quick the next one will be! Next time I will deepen the front facing a little to reduce any chance of it flipping out. My conclusion? A cleverly drafted pattern that is simple but not boring, and it looks good on nearly everyone I’ve seen wearing it on Pattern Review and around the blogs.
