I’ve had Simplicity 2560 in my pattern stash for a little while, and made it up in this grey marle viscose jersey a month or so ago. Like most of the garments I’ve made lately it’s comfortable and easy to wear. Do you see a theme here – it’s all about comfort! I rarely make anything close-fitting in a woven fabric, and almost never wear button-front shirts. I feel too self-conscious wearing them! Anyway, back to the jacket. There are a few versions in the pattern, and Clare helped me to select view B.
Another quick sew, assembled on the overlocker. I only needed the machine for the gathering stitches. The hem edges are simply finished on the overlocker too.
The skirt is entirely inspired (copied, really) from similar skirts made by Carolyn and Elizabeth. Because the fabric is semi-sheer, I sandwiched the waistband elastic between the fashion fabric and the lining fabric, then overlocked them all together and flipped both fabrics back to the right side.
Like the striped skirt I showed a few days ago, this skirt is just a rectangle with one seam and wide elastic around the top. It’s not even hemmed! I bought the fabric from Darn Cheap Fabrics – they also had it in pink and I am tempted to return for more.
I’m wearing this with my charcoal rendition of McCalls 6164. I really wish that I’d put some lipstick on before these photos were taken but beggars can’t be choosers, as my photographer was only willing to oblige for a very small window of time! I’d like to give the jacket another try in a brighter solid – I have a few earth toned fabrics in stash just waiting for something like this. Next time I’ll make it without the bubble hem sleeve treatment.
