Election Day
It’s Election Day! And you know what? I love it! I love that we have the opportunity to vote and have a say. I’ve been telling my girls that there are places in the world where people fight and die for the right to vote, but here in Australia everyone votes and has the opportunity to have a say in how their country is run. I love that everyone comes out of their homes and lines up at the local school and has their say. I love the school fundraising sausage sizzle – we spent a couple of hours this morning cooking sausages and pouring coffee for people waiting to vote. I love the sense of community and purpose that I find on election day.
Tomorrow will I love the outcome? Not sure yet…
I just posted on my Facebook status words to the same effect. I always get teary when I vote, because we are so lucky to have that right. People have died to try and get that same right.
And I also said I was teary because I was too late for the cake stall (and the sausage sizzle).
Agree with you wholeheartedly.
well said Lara!
I too am a little dubious about the outcome.
Hey, this country chick is feeling very hard done by NO sausage sizzle, certainly NO cake stall- and hilariously, only one other voter when I went in at 2pm at Waaia School! The senate paper box was feeling full and I said to the lady ‘are you allowed to get another one’- ‘no, they only gave me one so I just have to keep shaking them down’… not many people expected to vote at Waaia School obviously- I realise now, that’s because there’s no sausage sizzle!
I normally don’t go to bed on election day until the result is known. Looks like I’ll have to change that policy tonight!
