Trouser toile & Tessuti top
While at Sewjourn I finished off another Tessuti Our Fave Top and completed a toile for a pair of trousers (pattern appropriated from a clever designer friend).
I’ve been after a basic trouser pattern for a while and had this doubleknit in stash. I had to take it in a little at the sides but it’s not bad for a first effort.
A few wrinkles and doesn’t hold in my round tummy, but that’s due to the doubleknit – I reckon that in a drill it would be fine! At least it’s comfortable. The back has my usual problem of excess fabric folds under my bottom (which is much further down my legs nowadays than it used to be).
I think it fits well around my bottom and waist, so I might need to play with the leg pattern a bit. But you know what? I’ll wear it as it is, because I never tuck anything in and no-one will see the top of it.
Now that top I LOVE! A few of us tried it on at Sewjourn, and came to the conclusion that the Tessuti Fave Top is not really flattering on most women who are endowed with anything above a C cup (unless you’re all quite tall). All the better for me! The fabric is so soft, it has some viscose in it as well as poly/lycra. I found it at Darn Cheap Fabrics (and am sorely tempted to return for more). Not the colours I’d always choose, and the pattern is rather bold – but as you know, I like colour and pattern!
And THANK YOU for such beautiful birthday wishes for my little one. She’s also dropped her day sleep during the last week, and is finally going to bed at a respectable hour at night (we’ve been battling to get her to sleep before 10 for months, and now she’s asleep at 7.30pm). Who knows, I might even get some more sewing done!
Awesome job on both the pants and the top lara…
I bought that new foot today !
I am always in awe of your productivity Lara!
…and you know, I still haven’t made that pattern for ME yet!
Do you ever sleep? they look great
le tissu de ta tunique est magnifique, bravo
What a great looking outfit! And it DOES get harder and harder to find flattering outfits as we get older and more attacked by gravity. 😉
Fantastic Lara. And well done on getting the girls to bed earlier. I can’t wait for 7pm to roll around!!!!
The pants are great, even with back wrinkles (which are very hard to completely remove!!).
Fiddling with pants fit has for a while been a minor obsession of mine, and our shape issues are similar (though you are much smaller than me!). If you decrease the back crotch depth – ie bring the back inleg edge back – but not the crotch length – ie distance from waist down – you will go some way to reducing the wrinkles under the bum. You may also reduce the wrinkles by dropping the side waist a bit or reducing the inward curve at the side close to the waist if you aren’t very curved from the side of your hip in to your waist. I think the conventional pants shape is predicated on curvy bum, curvy hip and flat stomach. If you have a curve on your stomach you need to redstribute some of the overall fabric bulk at the hip measurement to the front and since redrawing the whole crotch is complicated, it is generally easier to trim off the back crotch and side waist a little (even if it means you need to use a size bigger to start with). Hope that makes sense and is helpful. Perhaps we need a pants sewing and fitting session together??
Both gorgeous Lara! Especially love the top. It looks fantastic!
Another great top – pants are good too – I couldn’t quite follow Sooz’s suggestion – but it looks to me like the crotch is too high – maybe try to lower the depth of the crotch at the inner leg seam …hmmm – as you say – it is quite fine – well done!
Yeah, I’d wondered about the Tessuti top. I guess I and my DDs will have to skip it. :/
Yours looks good though!
The top looks great on you Lara, well done
