Straight to it today! Here is the pattern – McCalls 5337.
And here is my interpretation!
The fabrics were in my stash, and were formerly part of June’s stash. I have no idea how old they are or what they are made of. The floral is a gauzy weave and is possibly a cotton mix, and the spot is also quite light and sheer but feels like a different fibre combination. I was very happy when I pulled these from the piles of fabric and realised how well they would work together!
I cut the size 10 as the pattern looked as though it would have loads of ease, and it seems to fit quite well – loose without being baggy. The construction was quite unusual, as the “sleeves” are a little more like wings or a cape, and are attached at the front yoke and at the back they are inserted into side back seams. It makes them rather fluttery and I think they look a little asian inspired.
Because this is such a distinctive style I possibly wouldn’t make it again, but I definitely do like it! Nice for the last few warm days before Easter, when autumn tends to kick in with a vengeance.
