New Look 6809 #4
Okay, hands up if you thought you’d see another incarnation of this pattern! When the weather forecast for Friday was hot, hot, hot, I decided to make myself a cool dress from Spotlight cotton voile. So yes, I pulled out New Look 6809 yet again. This time I went for view E but without the hem ruffle, and I lengthened it to a dress.
Eldest daughter was my photographer (standing on a chair to avoid the dreaded photo-looking-up-my-nose angle) and youngest daughter decided that she needed to be in every photo as well. Preferably if she could copy each pose.
After your comments on the last dress version of this pattern I decided to give a belt a go. I sewed a simple tie belt from the same fabric, figuring that it wouldn’t contrast too much and might actually give me shape rather than draw attention to my thick midsection.
Then Stella wanted to wear a belt as well.
I wore it all day Friday and was comfortable and cool – even with the belt! You can see my first two versions of this pattern here and here.
It looks great! I love the pictures with the little one, too.
very simple yet elegant looking little dress
I like the colour & style, go with the belt too, love Posie
I’m pro-belt. Looks great!
Oh wow, well done. That belt really makes it… you have a lovely shape in the dress and it’s a very flattering neckline and length too.
You have been the uber-seamstress so far this year Ms Thornberry!
Cool, cool, cool – I quite like it without the belt.
Tres cool! And didn’t we cool it on Friday???
I think I’d be wearing it without the belt – love a loose sheath dress. Gorgeous last pic of you and Stella.
OH – remind me on Friday to give you that book I promised!!
I meant “didn’t we NEED to cool it on Friday?” … the weather was hideous.
This is the best version yet. I love it! And with the belt too! But let’s face it, Stella is stealing the show, the little poppet!

it’s gorgeous!!
I really like this one, and I’m for no belt. It’s not bad with, but I think it’s a better style without.
Way to go with making things for yourself. I’m very bad at that….always for others.
love love love the neckline and little sleeve! going to have to get my hands on that one, you did a fabulous job! beautifully modelled by the two of you, of course
corrie:)
I really, really like this as a dress!
The fabric suits both you and the style, and I’m sure it will get a wear this weekend:)

Ooh, I love this one too!
