Tu-tu much?
While visiting GJs this week to take advantage of their 25% off all patchwork and craft sale (still a few days left if you’re local) I noticed that the dance fabrics remnant table was piled high. Lots of gaudy colours and sparkle. I remembered a tutorial that I saw recently, and decided to make some dress ups for both the girls (rather than tackling one of the more pressing projects currently on my massive to-do list or, god forbid, tackling the ironing pile).
The skirts were made according to the tutorial from four colours of tulle and some rainbow striped chiffon. Nice and boofy – very “ballerina” as Stella kept repeating.
The tops are from something sparkly and stretchy with huge lycra content. I just sewed up a tube to the chest measurement of each girl, hemmed the top, then added wide shoulder straps from the chiffon. Once tied into bows they trailed down nicely.
I should have done a rolled edge on the straps – I’ll have to go back and do it later because they have frayed much more than I anticipated. The girls spent the entire evening dancing and prancing. They are very happy with their new outfits and with daddy for dancing with them.
They look VERY happy with the tutu!
but daddy has no tu-tu???
Love a bit of procrastination! Now get to the ironing haha
That’s tu-tu cute!
So cute, and worth it to make your girls so happy! Great family pic too x
Nothing like a dancing dress Lara, they look great. Stella looks more grown-up in these pics – has she had a haircut??
I’ve been thinking of making gifts for little girls, you’ve provided the inspiration. Thanks again for sharing your darlings.
The smiles say it all, I don’t think I’ve seen such big smiles on them. I mean they smile for the camera but you can tell how pleased they are with their outfits.
