While visiting GJs this week to take advantage of their 25% off all patchwork and craft sale (still a few days left if you’re local) I noticed that the dance fabrics remnant table was piled high. Lots of gaudy colours and sparkle. I remembered a tutorial that I saw recently, and decided to make some dress ups for both the girls (rather than tackling one of the more pressing projects currently on my massive to-do list or, god forbid, tackling the ironing pile).
The skirts were made according to the tutorial from four colours of tulle and some rainbow striped chiffon. Nice and boofy – very “ballerina” as Stella kept repeating.
The tops are from something sparkly and stretchy with huge lycra content. I just sewed up a tube to the chest measurement of each girl, hemmed the top, then added wide shoulder straps from the chiffon. Once tied into bows they trailed down nicely.
I should have done a rolled edge on the straps – I’ll have to go back and do it later because they have frayed much more than I anticipated. The girls spent the entire evening dancing and prancing. They are very happy with their new outfits and with daddy for dancing with them.
