Vintage crochet Friday #39
My friend Janet recently gave me the pattern book to make these crocheted wall hangings. Thank you Janet!
My first thought was to giggle, but the more I look at them, the more I like them.
Maybe styled a little differently, since I don’t have a brick feature wall inside my house (although my parents do!)
What do you all think? The colours are terrific. Which one is your favourite?
ROFL 🙂 no they don’t look better to me on looking at them longer 😉 I just see all the dust they will collect and I won’t clean.
I vaguely remember something similar to the with ones with cream center in my aunt’s house. Big crochet eyes were added to make them look like an owls and sticks were added to the bottom as branches they sat on.
They had a rock feature wall.
I am swooning over the blue and green…stunning!
I might be strange, but all I’m seeing is owls without the eyes and beak!
I love them, but I would need the internal brick wall and maidenhair fern (preferably in a macrame pot holder) to go with the look!
I think they are all so dreadful that I can’t even begin to think of a favourite. I think this is one style feature from the 70’s we can leave well and truly behind us!
Oh my. These are just truly, um, interesting? I really dislike orange, so much of that era is just awful. I just wonder what is up with all the long, braided fringe? I think you could make a more modern version of one of these if you eliminated the fringe. And perhaps, frame it. Of course the colors would have to be updated. (The braids just remind me of those homemade cabbage patch dolls of the 80s…shudder).
wow…gorgeous
Lara, pet,
I think it is time for a cup of tea and a good lie down…..
I’m with the commenters that think they are just dreadful. Probably because they remind me of the early 70’s when I was a teen. Besides they look like those equally awful marcrame wall hanging LOL
I see I’m not the only one strongly reminded of those macrame owls that used to stare out at you from brick feature walls! The beaded fringes just leave me cold.
I usually enjoy vintage (60’s – 70’s) stuff. There’s a lot out there that was really good — classic lines and even still stylish for today if you modernize the colors. But these wallhangings, no offense, remind me of all the nasty stuff back then that should best be forgotten (especially that purple one — looks like it’s barfing up yarn – ew!)
I have to agree with Susie and Jodie…
Thanks for the comment on my blog. And these crochet items are great… I really kinda like them!!
Well here in rural Victoria (from where it was found) someone had great intentions of emulating the stylish interior design adornments of the day!
I wonder if she ever did make one…….
