Vintage crochet Friday #23
Poncho goodness – see, one for all the women in the family!
Basically big granny squares with a hole in the centre and a fringe around the bottom. I had a crocheted poncho similar to this when I was a young girl – did you have one too? I remember trying to untangle the fringe all the time. In many ways I think that when people hear the word “crochet” this is what they think of – along with granny squares, doilies and crocheted bikinis. Actually, I am planning on tackling a doily soon (albeit a giant one which will be a floor mat) but I don’t think that the crocheted bikini is likely.
Yep, I had one – one of the other products of the hateful crochet classes I went to with my sisters as a young girl. How my mother must laugh to see me enjoying it so much now! I love Vintage Crochet Friday.
Oh yes – in prep. My navy blue poncho was so very 1974!
I had a baby blue one in prep (1980) with pom-pom tassels. I loved that poncho so much!!
We had knitted ponchos, as my Mum is a knitter-extraordinaire. But the same shape, and very 70’s colours.
That baby is hella scary!
I have just made one for my daughter – now I want one too!
Yup – I remember untangling the tassles in church, in the car ..anywhere I was sitting still.
Oh yeah baby, had more than one and I can picture them so clearly. Mom was a crochet fiend…ponchos, mittens, cat hat (3 grannies together to make point ears) I miss those ponchos! she made herself a gold/cream/brown one I remember. Mine are archived in pics as they were often made for Easter. Oh, memories…
No I didn’t have one – but I wanted one!
I guess as one of three girls Mum didn’t have the time/energy/inclination to tackle three.
That baby looks like a ventriloquist doll in that pic!
I had a purple/mauve mohair one that I even wore for my school photo in 1979!
Hi –
I love this crocheted poncho! Where can I purchase this vintage pattern?
Thanks.
