Baby beanies
Cleckheaton have a couple of lovely baby crochet books out at the moment. This one has some delightful designs in Merino Bambino and Cocoon 4 ply. I am planning on making the bolero style cardie for Stella, but started off making a beanie in Merino Bambino for a friend’s bub.
So simple, but the picot edging and stalk make it so cute! I also made matching booties, but unfortunately didn’t make the booties so that they matched one another. I somehow managed to do one more row in the foot depth and one less row in the ankle depth in one of the booties, so although they’re the same height, they’re differently proportioned. I should just do one more bootie to fix the problem, but now I’m over booties. So she’s just getting the hat.
The other baby hat I’ve finally completed successfully is the Crazy Easy Newsboy Cap.
I had tried to make this three times before, each time totally unsuccessful as far as size was concerned – they fitted Clare’s doll better than Stella’s head. This was all due to my issues with inappropriate yarn substitution, nothing to do with the pattern at all. Luckily for me, Ylana had sympathy for my plight after reading about my prior failures, and generously sent me some Rowan All Seasons Cotton so I could give it another go. This time, it worked! I made the baby size, and it will fit a baby this time instead of a doll. Gorgeous yarn, lovely pattern, definitely needed to use the recommended yarn (or one VERY similar) for this one! Thank you so much Ylana! Once again, bloggers to the rescue!
I had to chuckle about the booties…. sounds like something I would do!
Love the beanies, especially the newsboy cap! So pretty and the yarn looks so soft.
They are both fabulous – I love the colours you chose. After seeing the beautiful patterns in newsboy cap, I’m sure I should be aspiring to do more than granny squares. Much to learn!
Those cardigan patterns look so sweet. I’ve been scouring Ravelry for a simple cardigan pattern to crochet for a toddler but nothing is quite right. However the cardigans in the publication you mention look perfect. How do you go about enlarging them so that they fit your daughter (it looked like the sizes went up to 12 months)?
PS – The two hats are particularly sweet!
That newsboy cap is lovely, I have a wee story in my head about the child who wears it; with a cheeky grin, a bit of dribble, planning mischief. (I think the child in my head is older than the one you have made it for but my brain rejects logic) Great that you kept going and with some help found success. Yay to Ylana.
I love the newsboy hat, crochet is on my list of things to learn…
I have only just this week made my first COTTON newsboy… I love the acrylic ones, have made about 30 now. I will flip you thru my substitute hook sizes to give you the right size hat by using 8 ply acrylic. I did mean to do this ages ago and have just been reminded by your lovely hat here!!.Jo
