Since it is actually coming up to winter here in Melbourne, I’ve finally moved on from summer frocks to sewing winter clothes. This skirt has been cut out for months (probably since the beginning of summer, since I appear to have a problem sewing for the appropriate season). Why did I procrastinate?
I’ve had this pattern in the stash for a little while. I made the skirt, although I originally bought the pattern to make the top.
The fabric is a lovely light corduroy from Spotlight, and I have enough left to make a pinafore for Stella. I think I’ve seen Gillian make a great top from the same fabric recently. Nice details in this pattern, with top-stitched pleats all around and belt tabs.
I thought twice about posting that photo, because you can see the dodgy crooked topstitching around the tabs. It looks worse in closeup – I should have unpicked. The buttons are vintage, and I sewed them straight through all the fabric layers rather than making buttonholes that would never be undone. The waist is elasticised, which Clare prefers.
The bottom ruffle just adds that extra girly touch! Sadly, I couldn’t get Clare to model this one – too busy playing computer games, hmmmm.
