Up at the farm
We spend the Easter holiday each year at my aunt and uncle’s farm. Clare hasn’t missed one yet, and looks forward to the visit with great excitement. This year she is at a perfect age for a farm holiday. She loved riding in the ute to let the cattle out and bring them back in again, feeding out to the merinos, collecting eggs and feeding the chooks, chucking rocks into the dam, and paddling and feeling mud squishing between her toes. This year was extra special because Daddy took her for a ride on the farm motorbike.
It took a little coaxing at first, but once she’d had her first ride we could barely keep her away! Stella even had a ride (gasp!). The girls both loved the Easter egg hunt on Sunday morning – Clare kept giving the eggs to Daddy to mind and he continued redistributing them around the garden, so each egg was discovered approximately four times.
Stella was a little cautious around the farm dogs (woof woof) but enjoyed the chickens – she can even make a good chook noise now. We were lucky enough to have my parents with us and my cousin and her two young children. So lovely watching Stella and her cousin playing together – Stella is only four months younger – and Stella was intrigued with the six-month old. A little too enthusiastic with her cuddles and kisses though!
I love our Easter holidays at the farm. Clear blue sky, fresh air, rolling hills, sadly not much green around at present though. It’s so relaxing for me as a visitor, and my aunt’s and uncle’s hospitality knows no bounds. Although we don’t go to church at Easter, I have still attempted to explain to Clare what Easter is really about – but boy, it is so hard to explain the resurrection to a six year old! I know though that to Clare it is about love and family, nature and the cycle of life. Hopefully Stella will receive the same gifts from our visits as she gets older.
I love farm holidays. My Aunt and Uncle have a farm in Esperence, WA and I love visiting there.
Oh My look how big Stella has got. When did that happen? They grow way to quickly!
It’s one of the things I miss most abotu Scott’s parents moving into town – no more farm holidays, barking at sheep, riding on the bikes and yabbying.
Is that up near the Strathbogies? Looks so familiar!
What an amazing weekend and a sweet post. We lived on a farm for two years in the UK when I was about 6, and it was pure magic. Went to my husband’s uncle’s farm in WA a couple of years ago, and it was pure fantastic jeep-riding, cow-shasing, yabby-hunting fun.
Chasing. I mean chasing.
That looks like the perfect easter break – how lovely! And we’ve been very excited here looking at your picture of a John Deere tractor!!
Sounds like a perfect way to spend a family Easter. Doesn’t Mr Thornberry look like a farm-bike natural..? And Clare looks SO HAPPY!!!
