Lacy shell poncho and hat
As much as I love working on the Wool Eater Blanket, on Sunday night I felt the need for a “quick-fix” crochet project. Clare has been asking for a poncho for a little while. So I made her a Lacy Shell Poncho and a matching hat.
The yarn is Patons Soft Haze, an acrylic/wool/bamboo blend that I picked up at Spotty for around $2 per ball a little while ago knowing that Clare would love the soft pink colour. It worked up extremely quickly with a 6.5mm hook – around 3 hours all up. And what does Clare think? Will she curse me in years to come for crocheting a poncho?
Nah, I think she looks pretty happy with herself!
Another person who should be feeling very happy with herself at the moment is Pip – her new book was launched yesterday, and it’s full of craft patterns and projects by Australian designers.
The book is beautifully presented and written in such an accessible style. Congratulations to all the contributors and to Pip for a terrific book! Another Australian book that has just made its way into my house is Material Obsession, a beautiful quilting book. So far I’ve only had the chance to glance through it, but I already want to have a go at making quite a few of the quilts within the pages.
And speaking of quilts and talented quilt designers, Kellie from Don’t Look Now! is having a giveaway to win her latest applique cushion pattern. Kellie’s work is truly breathtaking – her use of colour and detail is just so, so gorgeous! Pop over and enter – and maybe pre-order the pattern while you’re there!
I swear Clare is looking more and more like you everytime I see a photo of her! She looks pretty enamoured of her poncho and hat set!
The Material Obsession book is one of my favourites (next to my Kaffe books and anything my Kitty Pippen!). I really want to make the chocolate brown one (you’ll know what I mean) but I need to work out how to do it queen sized! One of these days …
Clare looks very pleased with herself! I wonder if I’ll be crocheting ponchos etc. for my daughter in the next few years!
Look how happy she is! I can understand why! I can’t believe you did all that in 3 hours….
she looks beautiful in her poncho and hat!
I must admit when I first was this one I may of let out a little gasp of excitement. If you adopt me can I please have one in a slightly bigger size.
Naar I think Clare will love it she looks so cute in it. I have fond memories of a summer blue, pink and cream poncho in trebles like a granny square (must learn how to do those as I have loads of bits of wool) and loving it’s softness. Ponchos are the things childhoods are made of as they aren’t just normal run of the mill cardigans. Lovely job.
So, so, cute!! Love the Soft Haze yarn too!!
She looks gorgeous!
3 hours…my blanket is going to take me until I’m 100.
I love the poncho and hat. I had a lovely ensemble like that (crocheted in a navy blue) when I was about Clare’s age and I adored it!
(Every time I see your crochet time estimates, I feel ashamed. I wonder how it is that it takes me an average of an hour to crochet a 6 round granny square!)
I’m amazed that it just got “whipped up” and no, she won’t curse you….when she’s in her forties (or maybe earlier) she will reflect fondly on her ponchos that mom made. I remember each one that my mom made me, and the banana curls that went them!
That top pic of her looking down is a great picture for composition, color, simplicity….nice.
She looks adorable in this top and beanie. I am thinking very seriously about starting up crochet. I am so inspired!
I love the poncho and hat. Is there any way I could get a copy of the patterns for both? Thank you.
love a poncho. My daughter will look adorable in this poncho.
