Horrific
While I was whinging about the heat yesterday, I wasn’t really paying much attention to the radio or TV news. It wasn’t until after the kids were in bed that I sat down and realised what was happening.
Victoria was burning. At this stage there are 50 people confirmed dead. The fires are still burning all over the state. Whole towns have been wiped out.
It is simply horrific. I don’t know what to say or do. My heart and prayers go out to all those affected.
Oh Lara, i’ve read some of the newstories. This is so terrible. We have wildfires here too, but never to the level of this magnitude. California has tho’. Unimagineable that whole towns all but gone. My heart is with you, enighboring towns and your country.
I know! My eyes just fill with tears every time I look at the TV. I was the same as you- didn’t really think it was that bad until later yesterday. The fire in Bendigo was stopped 200m from my sister’s and cousin’s houses. It’s just unbelievable!
I don’t know what we can do either. Let’s all keep our ears to the ground about ways that we can offer practical help to those poor people who have been affected, though. I’m sure in a tiny way, we can make a tiny difference, which is better then nothing. So sad and unfair and stupid that this should happen.
It’s really just awful – up to 84 now! It’s all I can think about.
I’m like you, I just didn’t realise. I was out in Seville and saw all the smoke over Kinglake way, but never imagined what we’d read about today. So tragic.
oh me too…this morning it was 25 and I came home and it was so much higher. I get all upset and try not to think too much about people’s last moments or the tears come
Corrie:)
I’m completely ovewhelmed by it all. Saddened to the core by the thought of what families who have lost everything – especially loved ones – are going through right now. I’m sure that on Friday night nobody could have imagined what this weekend has brought.
I spent saturday praying for family who live on a farm in longwarry, luckily they are all safe & they even saved their house
Roger lived in kinglake when he was young, not much left of it now
From US to you, we are praying for you.
I had an email from a chap last night who usually sends me jokes. It wasn’t until this morning that I realised this was true- the catalogue of heartbreak he sent was awful to read. Here it is trying to snow again. I wish I could send some of it over there.
I just finished looking at CNN online and they have a video that just made me cry, You see we went through just that in the summer here in Chico,ca. We lost so many homes and land. This happens every year and yes its very scary. This summer we lost our beloved 12yr.old cat cause of the smoke inhalation in the air, he just couldn’t take it and didn’t want to come in. Our prayers are with you from Chico,ca. Please be ready for anything.
We had a fire here on the weekend too!, The Golf Club burnt to the ground and several homes, but the news of Kinglake and Beechworth is just horrifying.
PS – I tagged you with a 6×6 challenge. see my blog for details.
Jo
No one could predict the worst, nor would judge you for complaining about the heat! People here (in a cooler part of NZ) have been complaining about the “heat” at 27C this weekend…
I’m grateful everyone I know is safe, although some have lost homes and livelihood. I hope all of your loved ones are ok too.
