Cup day skirt

The US presidential race wasn’t the only race happening on Tuesday – there was also the Melbourne Cup of course!  And for me the race was to get this skirt made for Clare before Stella woke from her midday sleep.

I used the last of the scraps I had from the top and dress I made a couple of weeks ago to eke out a matching skirt for Clare.

I made up the pattern.  The skirt is gathered onto the elasticised waistband – which works particularly well if the skirt is fuller than this one, as it reduces bulk a bit around the waist while still providing maximum twirlability.  I did take some photos during the construction of this skirt – would anyone like a tutorial?

October CAL squares

Okay, it’s November.  Here are the October CAL squares!  The pattern this (last) month was the Pumpkin Patch square.  Firstly, in Heather 8 ply cotton from Bendigo Woollen Mills:

I needed to add a few rows to bring the pattern up to size, so added two rows of dc, one row of sc and then one row of v-stitch.  It’s probably now a little oversize.  It will be interesting to compare the sizes of all my blocks at the end of the year.  I suspect that a few will need a couple of extra rows of sc to get them all to be the same!  This is definitely a long-term project.
