This is … my favourite film(s)
How could I possibly choose a favourite film? So I haven’t – instead, here are some of the films that we own on DVD/video – so either we must like them a lot or else they were selling very cheaply. We rarely buy grown-up DVDs or videos but have accumulated a huge number of kids videos, mainly bought at garage sales and op shops. In my single days I used to go to a movie every week. Actually, before having kids hubby and I went to a movie almost every week. Since having kids we go to see kids movies two or three times per year.
From the left:
-
Cars – hubby bought this DVD, ostensibly for Clare.
-
Emma – I love Jane Austen movies! Bring on an English costume drama any day, I reckon.
-
Baz Luhrman movies: Romeo & Juliet, Moulin Rouge, Strictly Ballroom. Great music, fantastic costumes, terrific stories. I adore musicals in any format!
-
Chicago – yep, another musical.
-
Priscilla, Queen of the Desert – now an Australian classic. And it has music!
-
The Lord of the Rings trilogy – absolutely brilliant. Both hubby and I love this series. Incredible stuff. If only we had a decent telly to watch them on again.
-
The ABC TV series A River Somewhere – this was a present to hubby. Magnificent scenery.
-
The BBC TV series Hornblower – this was a present to hubby too. Swashbuckling and magnificent Welsh scenery.
Thanks Hokey for this week’s theme and thanks to Angela for hosting “this is”!
oooh Hornblower (its the men in tights thing). Lord of the rings – AWESOME and as for musicals Lara, I saw WICKED yesterday and my mind exploded-simple as that!
Ah, Cars! I think we might have seen that about 400 times in the last 3 weeks. I might be a bit prone to exaggeration, but it has been on high circulation.
I like the look of your collection – especially all the musicals. I’m a huge fan of people breaking into a song and dance.
Ah, my husband would buy cars if he had the remotest excuse (like, if we had kids!) Instead, he watched it twice on the plane on our last trip, and then insisted on showing me the good bits (with commentary). !! Me, I’m with you on the Baz Luhrman thing.
The first thing that cought my eye was the Jane austen movie EMMA. I am so addicted to costume movies, I have seen the BBC series P&P a couple of hundred times already! lol!!! The LOTR series is also to be found in our collection, as is the hornblower series! I think we are a bit alike when it comes to dvd-movies!

I have heard of a lot of those I think A River Somewhere is the only one I hadn’t.
I’m thinking of tucking myself up in this bad weather with things like “A Box of Delights” really for children based on a John Masefield book but wonderful -shot in Herefordshire UK in the snow. Or “The Amazing Mr Blunden” or the 1948 classic Portrait of Jenny.
oh, i share your taste in films.
and in line with emma, sense and sensibility (with emma tompson) is wonderful. and moulin rouge. i could happily spend my life listening to ewan mcgregor sing. his face is adorable, too! and strictly ballroom…too cute!
Oh, I love Jane Austen movies too! The costumes and jewelry are wonderful. I also like Dickens movies. Have you seen Bleak House? I’d bet from your selection that you’d love it. Even my husband enjoyed it. It was fun seeing what you like to watch!
Hornblower!!! My hubby and I saw the whole series! We love it. Now, we are watching another Brit. series called The Tudors. It is about King Henry the 8.
