Square frame purse
Both the purse frame and fabric have been sitting on my desk for some time, waiting to be put together. Waiting, waiting, waiting…
and finally, its happened! The frame and notions are from a 150mm purse frame kit by Nikki, and the fabric is the beautiful Ginkgo design by Lara Cameron. I have a bit of a thing for ginkgos – my parents have a gingko tree in their front garden, which I always loved as a child. The shape of the leaves, how slow growing it is.
The lining fabric is very funky and works nicely with the outer fabric – it’s a quilting cotton I bought from Z&S Fabrics a little while ago, but I can’t remember what line.
I found it a little fiddlier to put together than the puff purse frames – just a bit more awkward to get around the right angled corners – but I’m happy with the end result. I’m keeping this one for myself.
Gorgeous!! I purchased the 300mm frame kit. But I’m not attempting it till I have help, I’m way too amateur for that one. But yours is soo nice!
That’s fantastic, Lara. Great to see it done. The frame thing gets easier with practise.
I’ll be fabric geek here…. The lining fabric is from the Every Iota Collection from Robert Kaufman. You guessed it.. I have it in a different colourway!!!
Hey, did you know Lara has a Flickr group for things made with her fabrics?
Beautiful !! Could you post a step by step tute on this? I’d LOVE that 🙂
That is so cool!
Ooo thats is fantastic I am very impressed and great fabric choices!
Lara, this one is great. They are a bit tricky at first but now they are my super-easy go-to quick gift. I just love them . That fabric is beautiful- another piece of excellence from you thornberry.
The silver with the ginko is perfect. I’ve never made a purse with this sort of fastening….interesting!
Love the fabric combination! It must be so rewarding to produce something that looks so professional!
Love it! I can see why you are keeping this one!
That lining is fantastic. It sort of shocks you when you showed it open, and I love that. I’ve got to try one of these closures, they look so fabulous.
I don’t know why but I have always loved ginkgos. To me…they look like little fans. And besides oak and maple, it’s one of the only leaves (leaf’s??) that I recongnize by name!
From one Lara to another – ooooh, this looks cute!! Nice work 🙂
This is so cute! I recently bought some purse frames and am excited to try them out! I love the fabric; I’ve been admiring Lara’s fabric for some time now!
