fabric stash, sewing

Another Melbourne fabric store

Hubby rescued a flyer from our letter box today and rather than putting it straight into the recycle bin he kept it for me, thinking I would be interested.  Oh yes, he knows me well!

Quick Response Fabrics – factory direct to public fabrics.  Starting at 50c per metre.  Open: Thursday 9am-4.30pm, Friday 9am-4pm and Saturday 9am-1pm.  Address: 26 Theobald Street, Thornbury (Melway Ref 31 B4).  Phone 03 9495 1722. Website www.qrf.com.au

From the website it seems that most of their fabrics are knits.  Great for dressmaking!  I’ll let you know what I think once I’ve been.

Share your stash week – Thursday

June is the mother/mother-in-law of one of my favourite couples (who are also Stella’s godparents).  When June moved into a retirement village, she didn’t have room to take her fabric stash. For many years June had most of her clothes made to measure by a dressmaker, so bought dress lengths of fabric whenever she found ones that she liked.  Lucky me – much of her fabric stash is now part of my fabric stash!  They are all beautiful quality fabrics, many John Kaldor.  I’ll share some of them over the rest of the week.

June's stash 1 by you.

I love these three!  The top and bottom fabrics appear to be polished cotton; the centre fabric is also cotton in a fairly open weave.  It’s quite transparent.

June's stash 3 by you.

These three appear to be linen/cotton fabrics.  Each piece is at least three metres; often four.

More from June’s stash tomorrow!  Many of these fabrics date back to the eighties (possibly earlier).  Thanks again to Mikes for hosting Share Your Stash.  Thanks also for all the lovely comments on the previous post about Dad’s woodwork – he is VERY chuffed!
