Some crochet for Mr Thornberry
Not everything that I crochet is for myself or for my girls! Sometimes hubby benefits. I finally made him a beanie to replace the one that was too small for him (but fitted me).
The pattern is from the Patons Learn to Crochet book, and is about as basic as they come. The yarn is Patons Jet (surprise surprise). The simple stitch pattern lets the yarn shine through. Michelle has been making gorgeous neck warmers lately, so since I still had plenty of yarn I thought I’d give it a shot too.
Same yarn, one hour, two buttons, neck warmer done! The pattern is from here. I see many more of these in my future (and the future of almost everyone I know who likes to keep their neck warm). And what does hubby think?
Other than thinking that they make him resemble Sir Douglas Mawson, he wore them all day! I must have done something right.
Rowr! What a spunk! I love a man who loves his crocheted goods.
Great job! Love the buttons on that colour Jet.
Fabulous hat and neck warmer. Great colour yarn too. I aspire to one day being able to crochet like that … for now I shall just admire the pics in my Patons Learn To Crochet book.
Wow! I think I need some of those for the footy!
So great for these cold days, cant believe how cold it is…..and he is wearing it so even better
When I saw the first two pictures I didn’t think much of the hat and neck warmer but seeing your husband wearing them made me realise just how great these simple patterns are and especially for guys who don’t go in for fancy stitching.

Good on you they look great! And good on your husband for posing for the photo … mine would have told me where to go!
Great job ! Such a gorgeous set. Your man is very lucky – I might consider making something for my man too 🙂
Sometimes I wish we lived in colder weather. I just don’t get to wear things like this. 🙁 I do make scarfs and then send them to other places. LOL I’ll have to start making the neck warmers and send them off as well.
I can’t find this book! I’d love to make this hat, and I love the colours you choose for yours. Help!!

Thank you SO much for the email! I didn’t realize you were in Australia.(smacking forehead) I think I will go ahead and try to get the book sent to me in Canada. I love the beanie and the wrap you made your husband. I realize it’s probably pretty hot where you are now so you aren’t into hats and scarves at the moment, whereas we’re currently at minus 8 with loads of snow here in Montreal, so I should probably get cracking!
Again, thank you. And I love your blog!
