Rachael’s Apron
Happy 40th Birthday Rachael (even though it was about two weeks ago). Your apron is finally finished. Because I altered the pattern to make it reversible, there are two fronts. Here’s one:
and the other:
The purple fabric was bought last year some time from GJs Discount Fabrics in Brunswick, and the green from Spotlight a couple of years ago. Once again, thank goodness for the stash! The pattern is McCalls 2811, view A.
It’s an interesting design – there are no ties to fasten it; it simply wraps around and the weight of the fabric combined with the three armholes (one arm goes through two armholes) seems to keep it in place. Here’s a view of the back.
Rachael put it on when she received it; because she is tall the design works really nicely on her! Yay, success!
The apron looks great…. I love the fabric in the first view, very cute.. 🙂
I have that pattern in my stash but haven’t made that view. You’ve made a wonderful job of it, I love the way it reverses.

I think that’s the kind of apron I need… good coverage for slops like me! And of course that fabric is lovely.
…and yes, I should be tweaking those instructions as you suggested (or perhaps putting a toddler to bed…?) instead of lurking around the blogosphere. Thanks for your feedback today!
Cute Apron. Nice to meet you last night.
Thanks for all your help with my crocheting. I have been practicing all day and dreaming about the “blue dress” in vintage crochet. I keep telling myself if I keep practicing, I”LL be able to give it a go next summer.
Cheers
Libby 🙂
This pattern rang a bell in my memory of three armhole “shifts” as we called them about 1963-64. There was a special foldover braid (foldover like double fold bias tape) that finished the edges. Mom never sewed me one…I kinda think the braid was a little pricey at the time, The braid costing way more the the fabric for the dress. The style only lasted about a year anyway! Thanks for triggering the memory.
I’m not sure I understand the three armhole thing , but it is a great apron , I love the green fabric.
Love the apron Lara – The fact it is reversible is fantastic – great fabric (especially the green)
That is really cool. The second fabric is beautiful.
I love the frilly gathered apron that comes in the pattern too.
What an unusual apron design. I love the fabrics you’ve chosen.
