Tie one on – Polka Dotted Lovelies
The latest apron theme from Tie one on is “Polka Dotted Lovelies”. This is my submission:
It’s a cobbler’s apron, made from a 1984 pattern (thanks to Mum’s pattern stash – you didn’t even realise I had this pattern, did you Mum!)
Rather than binding the edges with bias, I made it reversible. This is the other side.
The fabric is from Spotlight, ages ago (it was lurking in my fabric stash). The Tie One On gallery featuring lots of lovely dotted aprons will probably go up at the start of February.
Gasp! My Mum used to wear an apron just like that, brought back so many fond memories of her baking and cooking and yummy smells. I wonder if she still has the pattern? She probably does, she most likely still has the apron! great job, and I love the reversible idea as I hate sewing bias on myself.
Those colors are fantastic. I love how you made it reversible to suit you mood!
Gorgeous! I’ve been reading your blog for a few weeks now and am feeling very inspired. I’m new to sewing but already have a thing for aprons. The tunic-style is fabulous and I love your take on it. I don’t suppose you know where I could pick up old patterns like this around in Melbourne? (I’m in Brunswick). Or on the web maybe?
Thanks everyone! Gina, I have emailed you!
Reversible – what a great idea! And speaking of vintage patterns, I picked up a few size5/6 girls’ patterns yesterday if you’d like them. My email is in my profile.
Oh wow Pauline, thank you! I’ve emailed you!
love the dots!!!
Gosh – memories of the tuck-shop ladies at school…. ah, hot pies on cold winter days and lemonade icy-poles in summer…and that particular way they made the salad rolls…
Love an apron that’s reversible – like clothing in the seventeenth-century, you can just “turn” it instead of washing it!!!!
I like that you made it reversible. The fabric is fun, too!
Oh! I haven’t seen an apron like this is so long. My maw maw had this style and wore them allthe time over her clothes! I love the way this came out, and making it reversible is just too fun!
I know this is from an old post but wondering if you have any ideas of where to find this pattern in the US, it is just what I am looking for but not another pattern I like as well. Great job!!!
Good morning Gloria! I am glad that you like the apron. It is a very practical design! However, I have no idea where you would be able to find the pattern in the US – I am in Australia. I would suggest google and eBay and etsy. Do some searches on those and see how you go! Regards, Lara

Love it , I wanna make this it need pattern as a guide as I’m new to sewing… Help
Still wish I had this pattern. Love a cobbler apron. So comfortable. Any chance I can borrow your pattern?
I can’t figure out how to reverse the apron. I have made it and have left the shoulder open but everytime I pull it through it doesn’t come out right. Any suggestions?
Hi there Donna,
I’m sorry, but it’s such a long time since I sewed this that I can’t remember anything about it! Maybe just sleep on it, read the instructions again then give it another try. Good luck!
Regards, Lara
I love aprons and this one is fantastic! I have started making them too. I am searching for a style exactly like this one and would love to make this! Would you please advise me on how to get the pattern?
Ps I love the fabrics you use… Before I had kids I worked at a Spotlight store and also Lincraft!
This is the perfect pattern for my project. I’ve been asked by a nurse (I work for the NHS) to make a sample Tabard in bright colours for use when administering child vaccinations. Would you be able to suggest the basics required for this. I am wondering if I could use a simple boxy top pattern and adapt ? I’m new to sewing, particularly dressmaking!! Learning by mistakes

Hi there Jenni,
I would google for a suitable pattern if you’re not familiar with dressmaking, but your idea of adapting a simple top pattern would work. I’d use quilting cottons or similar. There might be some local charity groups who sew for the NHS or similar who might assist. Good luck!
Love this apron. I have been looking everywhere for a pattern. Can you help me locate one?
Hi Victoria – Google and Etsy/Ebay will be your friend. Good luck!
