Pleated Beauty Bag
Another Christmas present finished – yay! It’s the Pleated Beauty Bag from Bend the Rules Sewing by Amy Karol.
As usual, I have added an inside zip pocket, inside patch pocket, and key fob.
There’s a magnetic catch to close the bag. I used fast-to-fuse to make a firm bag base, and added a layer of heavy-duty interfacing to the base as well.
The entire bag is interfaced and has a layer of thin fusible fleece as well. The floral fabric was from Spotlight, and the lining (almost all gone now) from GJ’s Discount Fabrics. All the other bits and pieces needed to make the bag (bag feet, catch, intefacings etc) came from Nicole Mallalieu Design.
This is a great tote design – fairly easy and quick to make, but the pleats make it a little special.
I am really enjoying checking your blog and seeing what the latest creation is. You have also inspired me to buy fabric from IKEA. Love the new tote, it might be a bit hard to part with!

Oh my goodness! Bag feet! How many times have you made this bag now? I love all your adaptations.
I’ve made just the one (which I just adore) but there is so much I would change – the floppy interfacing for one! I like the structure your bag has. Really nice!
Love the bag-someone is getting a wonderful Christmas present from you! I like your innovations!
Such a lovely bag. It looks so perfect….. Lucky person who is getting that!

Gorgeous bag!!! Someone will be a very luck girl this Christmas!!! I need to start my Christmas shopping too!!!!
I cannot believe that is handmade, it looks soooo professional! What a lovely job you did. Whoever gets that as their gift will be a lucky girl!
This is one great looking version of the pleated beauty bag! I like the adaptations you made: inner zip pocket, key fob and magnetic closure, but especially the structure you gave it with the stiffer interfacing and the feet. Love it!
Once again you’ve excelled Lara. I tried this same pattern a few weeks ago and made a complete mess of it. You’ve inspired me to give it another go.
