Sensory tag blanket

Wow, three posts in one day!  I must be trying to avoid doing other tasks like ironing or preparing our tax return.  Anyway, to return to the point of this post, I’ve just finished off this tag blanket.

It’s a little different to the one that I made for Stella because it is for a friend’s six-month old bub who is blind.  I needed to make sure that it had plenty of variety in texture and even in sound.

Each of the blue cord pieces is layered with a different thickness of plastic, so the blanket has different crinkly noises at each end.  The patchwork side includes towelling, chenille in different patterns and textures, fake fur, felt, tulle, satin, sueded fabric, embroidery and some weird yellow textured fabric that I inherited from a friend’s mother.

The tags are made from ribbon, elastic, lace, ric-rac, leather, cord and velcro.  And of course, there’s a little tag in there made from a “Thornberry” label.  Here’s hoping that this is a successful baby toy!

More fabric

Another mail delivery (we like to keep the couriers busy)!  Fabric this time – my first order from overseas.  All packaged beautifully, tied with a bow!

These are to make the Black Forest Handbag, by Melly and Me.  Very fresh for summer!

These are for making cushions for my cousin’s boys for Christmas.  I intend to applique their initials onto them.

And these ones are just pretty.  The purple floral is for Stella (should go nicely with the strawberry hair) and I suspect that Clare will claim the pink once she sets eyes on it.

This lot came from here – ordering was very easy, they arrived quickly, and worked out to be less than half the price I’d have paid here.  I do feel guilty for not supporting local businesses, but obviously not enough to stop me shopping online.  I have another order in the works from Sew, Mama, Sew! (including the adult Hip Skirts pattern).

Crochet inspiration

The last couple of days have been good for mail!  These back-issues of Interweave Crochet arrived yesterday.

They both contain some really lovely projects.  I have flipped through plenty of crochet mags at the newsagent over the last few months, and I think that Interweave Crochet is definitely the best (although Crochet Today also has some nice projects).  It has a lovely mix of items and varying levels of difficulty, so they should keep me going for years!  I really want to make this blanket:

I know that it will take me years, but it will be a nice portable project (there are 126 squares in total, ranging from two-rounds to 12-rounds, in 18 different colours).  The hard part might be choosing the colours and deciding on the combinations for each sqare.  I’ll probably order some yarn from Bendigo Woollen Mills – they have a great mail order service.
