We received our family portrait yesterday, created by the talented Shannon of Aunty Cookie. We love it!
Now I just need to get it framed. Matching fabric was included for matting, so tomorrow I’ll be off searching for just the right frame. Thanks Shannon! If you’d like one, she takes commissions through her etsy shop.
A matching headscarf! Now she really looks like a little peasant.
You can’t really get a simpler accessory than this one. It’s a right-angled triangle, with the two short sides measuring 15″ each, the long side about 21″, and the bias binding 29″. Why do I use inches in lots of my sewing measurements I wonder – I grew up with the metric system, but for some weird reason lots of my sewing is done in imperial measurements. Although I measure fabric width in centimetres and buy fabric buy the metre. Very strange. Anyway, after that little digression, all you do is cut out the triangle with the long edge parallel to the grainline, narrow hem the two short sides, and encase the long side in folded bias binding (or ribbon) and sew it on. About fifteen minutes all up, tops.
I made a top to match the button skirt, using Butterick 4118.
Rather than turning the fabric under to make a self casing for the elastic around the sleeve and neck edges, I used some of the myriad of floral bias binding that I made a couple of weeks ago, and applied it to the outside of the fabric.
I used the same triple zig-zag stitch along the hem of the top as used on the hem of the skirt. It was a super-quick top to make, will be nice and cool for summer, and she likes it! And it’s not pink!
