Boteh scarf begins
In the past few days I’ve made a start on the Boteh scarf from Interweave Crochet Spring 2007 . The yarn is Lincraft Bamboozle, which is a bamboo/cotton mix. It has taken me a little to get used to (I’m used to wool) but is nice and soft and I think that it will make a great scarf.
It’s taken me a little while to get the hang of the pattern, but I think I’ve finally got it sussed now! There was an error in the pattern description (but not in the diagram) which was published on their website. It’s a good thing that I check websites!
I picked up a copy of the latest issue of Adorn at the newsagent.
After browsing the last couple of issues, I don’t think that it is a magazine that I’ll get regularly. Craft: was there, but at A$24 it was way too expensive! Maybe I can subscribe (I love the current exchange rate with the US) – I’ve been busy perusing US fabric sites as well. Fabrics that sell for A$24 per metre are less than US$9 per yard! I haven’t made any purchases though.
Thanks for the suggestions on lining for the Larger than Life bag. I think I might go for plain purple, in a similar shade to the sides of the bag, since the handles will be made out of this fabric. But I may go wild for the inner lining and pockets!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE that Scarf!!!!!!!!! I sadly cannot crochet
You always pick the best projects! The scarf is gorgeous, as is the yarn and the colour…bamboo cotton sounds amazing, I might have to have a peek in Lincraft!
I like the look of Adorn (I’ve only read one issue) but for some reason I feel really guilty buying magazines…truckloads of fabric I have no problems with but one magazine and I am in guilt trip land! =P BTW, I get almost all my fabric from US sites and then feel very pleased when I see it for $25 a meter in Aussie quilt shops! =)
PS. Try zandsfabrics.com, their prices are the cheapest I’ve found, usually between $5-8 a yard and they have lots of sales. =)
/end fabric buying enabling.
ooooooooh Meshell, my hubby is going to get worried now that I’ve discovered internet FABRIC shopping! Thanks so much for the link – I’ll be onto it soon! I am a magazine addict – luckily for me a girlfriend gets all the fashion/women’s mags and passes them on to me, which leaves me with the cash for sewing and crochet ones!
Amy, you must learn to crochet – it’s easy, I promise! Maybe I’ll crochet you a scarf one day . . .
The scarf is gorgeous! I’ve never seen anything like it so unusual and detailed. I really wish I could crochet when I see things like that. MUST make time again to look at the “learn to crochet” book as there was some black crochet yarn in a parcel from a dear friend this week.
I’ve been taking advantage of the UK-US exchange rate and buying fabric on Ebay and Etsy. Fabric which is £3 a FQ in a UK shop is often £3- £3.20 a yard plus £5.50 per 8 yards in postage from the US. The mark up is really bad in the UK as shops have to pay import tax on fabric and so little fabric is made in the UK for crafting. Shame. Still I’m meeting some lovely people in my pursuit of wonderful fabric. 🙂
I’ve really been enjoying “Home Companion” which is a kind of general crafting/home decor magazine. Sew Simple’s often good as well.
